The National Weather Service’s heat advisory for Indiana, Westmoreland, Armstrong and Jefferson Counties will start this morning at 11:00 and run through Friday.
During that time, temperatures are expected to be in the 90’s with heat indices above 100 at points with little to no relief from the humidity in the overnight hours. This is due to a heat wave that was in the west headed towards the eastern United States.
The hot temperatures and high humidity levels can cause heat-related illnesses like heatstroke and heat exhaustion. People are advised to drink plenty of fluids before feeling thirsty; avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day between 10 AM and 4 PM; and wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing when going out to work.
