Pennsylvania Senate Republican Leaders have issued a joint statement concerning the ongoing budget negotiations.
Pennsylvania lawmakers are working towards passing a budget by June 30th, which is the end of the fiscal year. Many are not hopeful that it will be passed on time, but are hopeful it will be put in place close to that mark. Last year, the budget was passed 135 days late, and the impasse forced many organizations and school districts to take bridge loans to cover expenses state funding would have been responsible for.
In a joint statement, Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward, Majority Leader Joe Pittman and Appropriations Committee Chair Scott Martin said the Repbulican Caucus’ priorities this year “continue to be that the final budget plan must be fiscally responsible, respect taxpayers, and position the Commonwealth for sustained growth. We are encouraged by the progress made to date and believe a budget agreement can come to fruition in the near future.”
