The Pirates lost another one-run game to Colorado last night as Paul Skenes’ 2026 miseries dragged on, and this one ended in bizarre fashion.
Joe Block has the game recap.
It was a wild finish. The Pirates loaded the bases and Jake Mangum hit a two-out slow roller that Rockies’ third baseman Kyle Karros fielded, with baserunner Billy Cook speeding in front of him. Mangum beat Karros’ throw and was safe at first, but the Rockies claimed runner’s interference on Bush, and after replays showed Bush’s foot had barely clipped Karros’ glove, he was ruled out and that ended the game.
The Pirates will try to salvage a game from the three-game series this afternoon in Denver. Jared Jones (1-1, 6.23 ERA) takes the mound for the Pirates against the Rockies’ Michael Lorenzon (2-8, 7.13 ERA). The airtime is 2:10 with Pirates Insider leading off the coverage. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10.
