The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry released unemployment statistics in the state for the month of May.
According to their report, the state unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%, the same rate that has been reported for the past four months. That’s one tenth of a percentage point below the national rate, which also went unchanged at 4.3%.
Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, went up 19,000 over the month to a record high of 6,626,000 in May. The total number of nonfarm jobs also broke previous records, going up by 9,000 to 6,209,500.
Jobs increased in seven of the 11 industry supersectors, with the largest gain in health services.
