The United School Board approved the district’s 2026-27 budget last night and a new collective bargaining agreement with the union representing its teachers.
For the budget, expenditures came to $26,168,969 with a deficit of roughly $2 million. That gap will be covered by a transfer from the district’s general fund balance to remove the need for a tax increase. The increases in spending were attributed to rising costs of healthcare and personnel-related items along with the one-time expenses associated with recent facility and program improvements. Chief among those projects was the renovation of the junior and senior high science classrooms.
The board also approved the four-year CBA with the United Education Association last night. According to a statement from the district, teachers will see an annual raise of 3% and there are changes to the healthcare plan that represent meaningful concessions on both sides. The agreement allows the teachers to move forward and focus on teaching and meeting the educational needs of the district’s students.
