The Pirates turned to the long ball to dig out of a big hole last night in Sacramento.
Joe Block has the recap.
In addition to the four hits by Bryan Reynolds, Ryan O’Hearn had three hits and Tyler Callihan had two.
Manager Donnie Kelly says Reynolds has been red-hot lately.
After getting four hits last night, Reynolds has an eight-game hitting streak, a 23-game on-base streak during which he’s hit .358, and he is 7-for-11 in his last three games with three home runs. He was typically reserved when talking about the big comeback.
The Pirates did themselves no favors in the first inning. Keller had to throw 38 pitches. Spencer Horwitz had a throwing error and Nick Gonzalez was called for obstructing a baserunner, helping the A’s score those four runs. Keller settled down and pitched into the sixth, striking out seven A’s. He admires the way the Pirates never give up.
Catcher Joey Bart was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his rehab start for Indianapolis last night. The Indians lost to Iowa, 13-7.
