It is Final Four day in the PIAA baseball and softball playoffs, and there are two state semifinal baseball games involving Indiana County teams, both of which you can watch on Renda Digital TV.
CLASS AAAA
Defending state Quad-A champ Indiana is 20-4 and has not been scored upon since the start of the postseason, winning three times by shutout on their WPIAL championship run, and blanking Somerset and Hopewell by identical 10-0 scores to advance to today’s game against Archbishop Wood, the District 12 runner-up. The Vikings are 18-4 and have played two razor-close games in the state tournament, edging Northern Lebanon 2-1 and Bellefonte, 3-1.
Today’s game is at 4 o’clock at Green Township Park in Scotland, which is near Chambersburg. Pregame begins at 3:40. The other Quad-A semifinal features District 1 champion Holy Ghost Prep against District 4 champ Montoursville, the school Indiana beat for the state championship last year.
CLASS A
In Class A today, Homer-Center, playing in the eastern bracket as the District 6 runner-up, takes a 15-10 record into today’s game against District 1 champion Dock Mennonite, which is 13-5.
The two schools have a history, playing once before, in the state championship game at what was then known as Blair County Ballpark, the home of the Altoona Curve, in 2005. Dock Mennonite was known then as Christopher Dock. They scored twice in the first inning and eventually won the game 6-1.
This year, Homer-Center’s offense and pitching have carried them to two straight crushing wins in the state tournament, blasting Northern Bedford 11-1 and MMI, 21-1 in three innings. Dock Mennonite beat the Christian School of York, 7-4 and Nativity BVM, 10-4.
We’re on the air on Renda Digital TV at 3:40, with first pitch at four o’clock from Lycoming Valley Intermediate School in Lycoming County, part of the Williamsport School District.
The other Class A semifinal is between Eden Christian Academy and Elk County Catholic, which will happen at 3 PM at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City. It’s the first game of a doubleheader at the field today, with a 5A semifinal between Hollidaysburg and Lampeter-Strasburg to follow at 6.
