The Penguins’ season ended more than a month ago, but the Pens’ brightest prospects are still playing. Forward Rutger McGroarty scored with three minutes remaining in the third period last night to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 4-3 win over the Toronto Marlboros in the AHL Eastern Conference finals, tying the series at two games each. Forward Gabe Klassen and defensemen Scooter Brickley and Chase Pietila all scored for the Pens and goaltender Sergei Murashov made 32 saves.
The home team has lost in all four games of the series so far. Game Five is tonight in Toronto.
The winner of the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s Coach of the Year is Tampa Bay’s Jon Cooper, who beat out the Penguins’ Dan Muse and the Sabres’ Lindy Ruff.
Game Two of the Stanley Cup finals is tonight in Raleigh, North Carolina, with Vegas up 1-0 against the Hurricanes.
