The Pirates fell behind early, but fought back against the Astros last night, coming away with their fourth straight win.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Donnie Kelly appreciated the way his offense came through after the Bucs fell behind by two runs…twice.
Bubba Chandler gave up four runs over five innings. Kelly says he toughed it out when things could have gotten away from him.
Jake Mangum had four hits, Nick Gonzalez had three, and Endy Rodriguez and Oneil Cruz both had two hits and three RBIs. Kelly says Rodriguez is finally getting a chance to show that he’s a really good baseball player.
Game two of the series is tonight. Paul Skenes (6-5, 2.89 ERA) looks to reverse a three-game losing skid against Astros righty Spencer Arrighetti (7-1, 1.34 ERA). Airtime is 7:45, first pitch at 8:10 on WCCS.
ALTOONA CURVE
A six-run ninth inning lifted Altoona to an 8-3 win over New Hampshire last night. Lonnie White Jr., Callan Moss, Keiner Delgado, and Derek Berg all had two hits.
The Curve have not announced their starter for Game Two of the series tonight in Manchester, New Hampshire.
