Supervisors in South Bend Township in Armstrong County are planning to put a moratorium in place on development to prevent an AI data center from setting up shop.
At last night’s meeting, Supervisors vice chairman Don Linsenberger said that the news that a parcel of land listed for sale to an AI data center group out of Florida took them by surprise. That land is currently leased as a hunting property and lacks infrastructure. During the meeting, supervisors were told by local planning specialists that establishing a zoning ordinance in an area that does not have one could take several years. South Bend Township currently does not have a zoning ordinance.
Supervisors plan to meet with the township solicitor to finalize specifics of the moratorium and plan to set up zoning measures moving forward.
