Governor Josh Shapiro this week introduced requirements for data center projects to receive state-based tax incentives and faster permitting that are also meant to protect state residents and hold companies accountable.
The Governor’s Responsible Infrastructure Development, or GRID plan, was developed with input from organized labor, local leaders, environmental specialists and industry stakeholders to outline specific steps that data centers need to follow to set up shop and demonstrate that their projects will provide real value to the communities. Developers seeking state assistance will be required to submit applications to the Department of Revenue and the Office of Transformation and Opportunity that outline how they will protect energy affordability, promote transparency and community engagement, support the workforce and economic development, and protect the environment. If the applications meet requirements, it will be eligible to be fast-tracked, which will streamline the permitting for high-impact economic development and infrastructure projects requiring permits from multiple state agencies.
The full GRID standards can be found on the DCED website.
