Tonight is the Sports Emmys awards ceremony in New York City and a local filmmaker is nominated for an award.
The documentary “Clemente” is up for “Outstanding Sports Documentary: Long form”. The film was directed by Indiana native David Altrogge through his Vinegar Hill film company. The documentary takes a look at the life of the famed Pirates player and focuses not just on the on-field talent but also his life off the field, including his humanitarian and social justice efforts.
The film won an award from South by Southwest film festival in 2024m and had a preview screening in Indiana that same year before it was released theatrically in 2025 and then picked up for television by The History Channel.
The film is going up against films about Pro Snowboarder Kimmy Fasani, the homegrown ski culture in Afghanistan, the life and legacy of Jim Abbott, a documentary on John Elway, and a film about the decades-long abuse scandals at Ohio State University.
