The Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission is warning everyone about an anticipated increase in energy costs in time for the summer season.
On June 1st, rates for many electric utility customers are expected to go up. For Penelec customers, that will include an increase of 11.88% from 11.747 cents per kilowatt hour to 13.142 cents. This comes as demand for power increases with the use of air conditioning units. The PUC says summer electric bills are influenced by two major factors: the market price of power and the amount of electric use during the hot weather months.
The PUC encourages consumers to prepare now by reviewing their energy usage, exploring conservation opportunities, and to call your utility company to discuss money-saving tools like budget billing, payment arrangements, and other available assistance resources.
