A retired Greensburg priest and former Pennsylvania State Police chaplain is now accused of sexual assault.
Allegations made against 84-year-old Robert Byrnes date back to over ten years ago. One man tells investigators Byrnes inappropriately touched him while he was working at Christ Our Shepherd. Another victim claims he became friends with the former priest before Byrnes began giving him alcohol, stating he had woken up naked in Byrne’s bed after drinking.
The Diocese of Greensburg has issued a statement saying Byrnes has not been active in any parish or other church entity since he was removed from ministry eight years ago.
