PennDOT announced yesterday that $74 million in investments are going to 38 counties in the state, including Indiana, to improve community resources and public accessibility.
The projects are funded as part of the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside of the Federal Highway Administration’s Surface Block Grant Program. The focal points for this round of funds include building bicycle and pedestrian facilities, improving access to public transportation, creating safe routes to schools, create trail projects that serve a transportation purpose or enhancing the safety for vulnerable travelers. PennDOT received 152 applications requesting over $173 million.
Indiana Borough will receive $38,000 to improve safety along the Philadelphia Street Corridor. This includes the installation of flashing stop signs and other beacons and the purchase of a portable message trailer for real-time safety alerts to pedestrian visibility. The money will also be used for efforts to reduce crashes and advance the borough’s vision of a safe, walkable community.
