Monday night, the Indiana School Board approved the tentative 2026-27 budget that will increase taxes by the state-mandated limit.
While the district has cut expenses by over $1.7 million, taxes under the proposed budget would go up by 4.5% as expenses exceed revenue by over $4.6 million. Superintendent Rob Heinrich is confident the district can find more cuts in the budget, and that with the tax increase will reduce the deficit significantly.
The vote was 5-3. Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro was one of the ones who voted against the tentative budget, saying that the financial state of the world has turned upside down over the last few months and she couldn’t in good faith vote for the budget.
The budget will be up for final approval on June 22nd.
