The Steelers have signed three more of their ten draft picks, leaving four left to sign. Cornerback Daylen Everette (third round), guard Gennings Dunker (third round) and fullback/tight end Riley Nowakowski (fifth round) all signed contracts, joining returner/wide receiver Kaden Wetjen, defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio, and safety Robert Spears-Jennings, whose signings were announced on Friday.
Offensive tackle Max Iheanachor (first round), wide receiver Germie Bernard (second round), quarterback Drew Allar (third round), and wide receiver Eli Heidenreich (seventh round) remain unsigned.
The Steelers’ rookie minicamp on Saturday was open to the media, and provided some ideas as to how the team plans to bring along their young prospects.
Drew Allar is the only quarterback at the camp and was heavily coached up by head coach Mike McCarthy and QB coach Tom Arth, with an emphasis on his footwork, which was frequently criticized during pre-draft evaluations. McCarthy said afterward that Allar “made a very good first impression.”
First-round draft choice Max Iheanachor worked at right tackle, where he played in college, which could be an indication that starting right tackle Troy Fautanu will move to the left side, or that Fautanu stays put on the right side and Broderick Jones, assuming he is physically able to return from a neck injury, remains on the left side while Iheanachor develops as a backup.
