Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro is urging utility companies to curb what he calls excessive rate increases as energy costs rise, though he lacks direct authority over pricing decisions.
In a letter to industry leaders, according to Spotlight PA, Shapiro warned he will strongly oppose future hikes and pushed for changes in how utilities finance projects and determine profits.
Rates are set by the state Public Utility Commission, an independent agency, meaning any significant changes would require regulatory or legislative action.
