TRACK & FIELD
At the PSAC track & field championships at Shippensburg, IUP’s Renee Simmonds has a 50-point lead over Slippery Rock’s Leighanne Swann heading into the final three events of the women’s heptathlon today. She was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, seventh in the high jump, first in the shot put, and sixth in the 200 meters yesterday. The long jump, javelin, and 800 meters will complete the competition today.
BASEBALL
IUP baseball swept UPJ in a doubleheader at Point Stadium yesterday, 6-3 and 11-2. The 29-19 Crimson Hawks will play the Mountain Cats again today in another doubleheader, at Owen J. Dougherty Field, to complete the regular season, then will open play in the PSAC Tournament next Wednesday.
TENNIS
IUP women’s tennis will be tested today when they visit Bloomsburg to play the Huskies in the PSAC semifinals. IUP has won 15 straight matches and is the top seed in the tournament, and in the Atlantic Region rankings. IUP has won five straight PSAC championships. East Stroudsburg and Slippery Rock play the other semifinal.
