JUDITH ASHBAUGH, 87

Judith Dean (Hewitt) Ashbaugh of Indiana, 87, went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2026.

Judy was born on July 24, 1938, in Bolivar, PA, to James Clifford and Gladys Melrose (St.Clair) Hewitt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Meredith Green, brother John Richard Green, sister-in-law Loretta Green, nephew Brian Green, and nieces Barbara and Rayna Brett.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years James H. Ashbaugh; daughters Janet (Joseph) Benamati, and Jill (Dennis) Earman; grandchildren Luke (Elise) Piper, Andrew Piper, Sarah Benamati (Alexandria Fazzolari), and Jordan Earman; great-granddaughters Chloe and Elodie Piper; sister Donna Hill; sister-in-law Margie Green; and many nieces and nephews.

Judy graduated from Laurel Valley High School in 1956.  She was a certified registered nurse practitioner. She worked for Indiana Hospital, Monterey Hospital (CA), Dr. John Mills, and Family Health Council over the course of her 44-year career in nursing.  She earned her RN from Indiana Hospital School of Nursing (1959); received certification from the Ohio Family Planning Training Center as a Family Planning Nurse Practitioner (1978); and attained National Certification as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (1982).

Judy was a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Reproductive Health, and Indiana Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association.  She served as a Stephen Minister, sunday school superintendent, and on various committees at Grace Church in Indiana, where she was an active member since 1962.

Visitation will be at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home from 2-4 pm on Sunday, May 3, 2026.  A memorial service will be held at Grace Church at 11 am on Monday, May 4, 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to Grace Church or the Chevy Chase Community Center.
