The Pirates got Braxton Ashcraft back from the Family Emergency/Bereavement list and he made the start, but wasn’t sharp as the Bucs lost their third straight game, and second in a row to the Cardinals.
Joe Block has the recap.
Manager Donnie Kelly says Konnor Griffin, who hit his first PNC Park home run last night, is adjusting to Major League pitching.
Left-hander Hunter Barco had a long journey to get to Pittsburgh after being recalled from Indianapolis yesterday afternoon. The Indians are in Memphis this week and Barco’s connecting flight out of Atlanta was delayed for five-and-a-half hours, landing in Pittsburgh less than a half-hour before the game. After the trip from the airport, Barco was called upon in the fourth inning and went the rest of the way for the Pirates in relief of Ashcraft. Kelly appreciated the effort.
Game three of the series is tonight. Pirates rookie righthander Bubba Chandler [1-2, 4.88 ERA] faces Cards’ righty Andre Pallante [2-2, 4.26 ERA]. Airtime is 6:15 with first pitch at 6:40 on WCCS.
After two games in Bradenton, infielder Jared Triolo’s rehab assignment shifted to Altoona yesterday. He’s been out since April 5th with patellar tendinitis in his right knee. Triolo last played for the Curve in 2022. He was 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk in his first game last night as the Curve beat Richmond, 10-9. In that game, Jack Brannigan also homered and had three hits, and Duce Gourson homered for Altoona, which will send Peyton Stumbo to the mound tonight.
