With ten new players arriving via the NFL Draft, the Steelers have already signed at least five undrafted free agents, including two tight ends, a defensive lineman, defensive back, and a kicker. There will likely be other undrafted free agents signed, and the team will also invite unsigned free agents to the rookie minicamp, which is scheduled May 8th and 9th.
General manager Omar Khan said in his post-draft news conference that he was happy with the players that were available to them, both drafting for needs and drafting for versatility.
Coach Mike McCarthy is a noted quarterback guru, and he got a very tools-rich guy in Penn State QB Drew Allar. He’s eager to get to work with Allar, Will Howard, Mason Rudolph, and (he hopes) Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers have also re-signed defensive lineman Dean Lowry, who was with them in 2024 but missed last season after tearing his ACL in training camp in St. Vincent last summer. Lowry was drafted by McCarthy in Green Bay in 2016.
Now a member of NBC’s broadcast team, former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in his first interview on the network over the weekend that he expects Rodgers to return as Steelers quarterback this season.
