The Penguins still face long odds to win their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Flyers, but Saturday’s 4-2 win in Philadelphia was a pick-me-up. Game five of the series is tonight at PPG Paints Arena with the Flyers up 3-1.
The Pens traveled home yesterday and did not practice. The Flyers skated in Philly before boarding the plane for Pittsburgh, and coach Rick Tocchet benched forward Matvei Michkov, the team’s third-leading scorer with 19 goals and 22 assists this season, in favor of peppy rookie Alex Bump.
Before the Penguins flew out of Philly, coach Dan Muse said he believes his team can play better hockey than they have so far in the series.
Muse switched goalies before the game on Saturday, inserting rookie Arturs Silovs between the pipes. He says Silovs, who made 28 saves, gave him exactly what he expected.
Pens/Flyers faces off just after 7 tonight, with the airtime at 6 on 92.5 FM-U92.
