BASEBALL
Coach Scott Bauer said it was a “sloppy second inning” that cost Homer-Center yesterday, leading to five Conemaugh Township runs on the way to a 10-3 win over the Wildcats. The Indians had ten hits, including a double and triple by Kaden Valentine. Shea Tyrell also had two hits for CT. Homer-Center was limited to four hits, by Brayden Rado, Nash Budner, Eli Turk, and Drew Fisher.
The other undefeated team in the Heritage East, Northern Cambria, played a non-conference game against West Branch yesterday and lost, 9-5. Parker Shutty had three hits and Connur Solley two for the Colts. Northern Cambria and Conemaugh Township are both 10-0 in the conference going into this afternoon’s head-to-head meeting at CT, but the Colts have lost two non-conference games in a row, their first two losses of the season.
Four Blue Jays had two hits as Conemaugh Valley blasted Purchase Line, 14-1. Lance Masser, Kyron Fields, Gavin Buchan, and Joey Toth all had multi-hit games. PL was held to three hits, including Rocco Peruso’s double, by three Conemaugh Valley pitchers.
United gave up five runs in the first inning and eleven in the second to fall to Windber, 16-0 in a three-inning game.
SOFTBALL
Tied at 2 after two innings, Indiana scored five in the third and fourteen in the fourth to shut down Marion Center, 21-5, in five. Samantha Martin was 5-for-5 with a homer, double, and four RBIs. Daelyn Bish and Claire Brewer each had three hits, and Rachel Livermore and Kaylee Cass each had two. For Marion Center, Ella Gaston homered and singled and Clare Lydic also had two hits.
Undefeated West Shamokin wiped out Cambria Heights, 16-0, as freshman Abbi Kimmel knocked out three hits, with a home run, triple, and three RBIs. Avery Elkin added two hits for the Wolves and Leah Mondi gave up just three hits in the four-inning game, striking out five.
Kaitlyn Houser drove in three runs with two doubles and Rylee Mahaffey struck out fourteen in a three-hitter as Purchase Line handled Conemaugh Valley, 3-0.
A big day at the plate for Preslee Campbell, who had three hits and drove in four runs in United’s 17-2 rout of Blacklick Valley. Ella Worthington and Karrie Yoder each had two hits, with Worthington’s both being doubles, and Bailey Pisarcik drove in three runs in the four-inning game. In the circle, Worthington struck out ten.
