Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco has scheduled jury selection to begin on August 24th for the murder trial of Ronald Weiss . The decision came after a motions hearing on Friday.
Weiss is accused of killing 16-year-old Barbara Bruzda in October of 1978 after the two played pool at the Tunnelton bar owned by Bruzda’s father. Her body was found the following March and Weiss was convicted of first degree murder in 1997. A federal judge struck down the conviction in 2018 due to prosecutorial misconduct by the state attorney general’s office. Weiss was immediately re-arrested and the case has been slowly moving toward trial since then. This will be the sixth attempt to seat a jury.
Weiss remains incarcerated at SCI Laurel Highlands in Somerset.
