The Pittsburgh Penguins are back in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, ending a three-year drought after one of the longest postseason streaks in major North American sports history.
The return has special meaning for the team’s core trio—Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang—who have now reached the playoffs together once again after missing out in recent seasons.
Malkin, who has been with Pittsburgh since his rookie year in 2006, said the past few seasons without playoff hockey were difficult, and that this run carries added significance as his career moves forward.
Head coach Dan Muse praised the group’s leadership, calling their experience and competitiveness a driving force behind the team’s turnaround this season.
Crosby added that while there wasn’t much formal discussion among the veterans, the goal was always clear—to get back to playing meaningful hockey in the spring.
Together, the trio has helped define one of the most successful playoff eras in NHL history, and now they get another chance to add to it.
