Indiana Regional Medical Center has reached a major milestone in orthopedic care.
IRMC has successfully performed its first “gold knee” replacement, becoming one of the first hospitals in western Pennsylvania to offer the option. The procedure uses Mako SmartRobotics technology to improve precision in implant placement and surgical planning. The gold knee implant is designed for patients with nickel sensitivities, offering a safer alternative while maintaining the strength and function of traditional replacements.
A patient from Punxsutawney says she’s already seeing strong progress, with less pain and improved mobility after putting off surgery for nearly two years.
Hospital leaders say the milestone reflects a commitment to personalized care and bringing leading-edge treatment options to patients close to home.
