The Pirates took an early lead and made it stand up as they took the third game of their series with the Nationals. Joe Block has the recap.
Manager Donnie Kelly says Carmen Mlodzinski adjusted well to coming into the game in the second inning, rather than the first.
Kelly enjoyed the Pirates’ approach to the game after putting them through extra fielding practice for his pitchers and outfielders.
Mlodzinski says it was not a big adjustment coming in from the bullpen rather than starting the game.
ALTOONA
Altoona lost for the eleventh time in eleven tries this season, as Portland took a 7-0 lead into the sixth and then withstood a Curve rally. The Sea Dogs won it, 8-6. Jack Branigan had two-extra-base hits and drove in three runs and Javier Rivas hit his second home run of the season. Rivas, Mitch Jebb, and Omar Alfonzo all had two hits.
The Curve will take another stab at winning for the first time this season tonight with right-hander Peyton Stumbo taking the mound.
