The Penguins had the day off yesterday to fly to Boston, where they will play the Bruins tonight. The Pens are 10-1-4 in their last 15 games, and 16-3-4 since Christmas, but they have lost three in a row to the Bruins.
Rookie goaltender Arturs Silovs is the NHL’s Second Star of the Week after he stopped 51 of 52 shots in wins over New Jersey and Vegas. Silovs is 5-1-0 in his last six starts with a 1.68 goals-against average.
The NHL trade deadline is this Friday at 4 PM and the Penguins are expected to be big players in the trade market, with salary cap space and the team unexpectedly in a strong playoff position.
Ville Koivunen is the AHL Player of the Month for February. In eleven games, he scored 6 goals and had 10 assists. His 16 points for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton led the AHL. Despite playing only 27 games for Wilkes this season, he leads the team in assists with 21 and has added 11 goals.
