To celebrate the new year’s arrival, some citizens of Blairsville will be taking the polar plunge this morning.
The annual Blairsville Polar Bear Plunge will be held at noon today at the boat launch near the Conemaugh, continuing a tradition that started when several people decided to celebrate New Year’s Day by taking a swim on January 1st in the river according to Victoria McCulley, one of the organizers of this year’s plunge.
The event has benefitted many different organizations in the past. This year, the beneficiaries are the Swift Water Rescue Team and the Blairsville Parks and Recreation Foundation.
Those who want to take part can do so by donating today at the boat launch. Everything will open up at 11:00. If you wish to buy a T-shirt from the event, it’s $20 for regular sizes and $25 for sizes 2xl and higher.
