A new Pennsylvania law updating the state’s DUI statutes took effect this week, aiming to strengthen drunk driving enforcement and clarify sentencing rules following recent court decisions.
Act 58 of 2025 codifies mandatory jail sentences for drivers convicted of operating a vehicle while under DUI-related license suspension and updates provisions governing refusal of chemical testing.
Lawmakers said the changes close legal gaps identified by prosecutors and judges while preserving the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program for eligible first-time offenders, balancing accountability with rehabilitation and improving public safety statewide.
