The man charged with planting a bomb on his former landlord’s lawnmower in Salem Township is facing more charges connected to a second pipe bomb he allegedly made and put on a pick-up truck.
State Police say James Sever faces 39 new counts including 17 counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment and single counts of making a prohibited offensive weapon, weapons of mass destruction, risking a catastrophe and possession of an instrument of crime in the new investigation. Police said that Sever made two pipe bombs that were initially for a relative but changed his mind and decided to use one on the landlord and the other on a unnamed relation.
Sever allegedly planted the bomb encased in a wood box on a pickup truck he thought belonged to the relative, but in reality was a loaner truck from a dealership in Rostraver. Two other families and a dealership employee all drove the truck before the bomb fell off August 12th, on a ramp to the PA Turnpike in North Huntingdon Township. It was found two days later.
Sever was arrested in September after spending nearly a month on the run after the lawnmower explosion. He was found by an off-duty officer on the Hoodlebug trail in Center Township.
An arraignment hearing has yet to be held. Sever remains in Westmoreland County Jail.
