The Pirates endured a rain delay of over three hours before their game against the Astros. When they got around to playing ball, they ran into Astros ace Framber Valdez. Joe Block recaps the loss.
The Pirates struck out sixteen times in the game, including twelve by the top four hitters in the lineup. Oneil Cruz fanned twice, Andrew McCutchen four times, and Bryan Reynolds and Nick Gonzalez three times each.
The cross-state rival Phillies are in Pittsburgh tonight. Former Phillie Bailey Falter starts for the Pirates and the Phils will use a bullpen game, with Joe Ross serving as the opener. It’s a 6:15 airtime, 6:40 first pitch on WCCS.
