Just as utility crews were close to being done with restoring power from last Tuesday’s storms, another round of severe weather knocked out power yesterday.
Strong thunderstorms came through the area early Sunday evening and hail ranging from the size of popcorn to golf balls were reported. Some of the storms were strong enough to knock power out to some communities temporarily and flood streets. In fact, Homer City firefighters were sent to Main Street at 7:38 PM for a report of a flooded road on Main Street. Three pumping details were reported by Indiana County 911 yesterday, with the calls coming in the 7:00 and 8:00 hours for Canoe Township, Indiana Borough, and Conemaugh Township. Rossiter, Indiana and Saltsburg fire departments were sent out at the time.
Penelec reports 90 people are still without power, while 31 REA Energy cooperative members are still in the dark this morning.
