Pennsylvania officials have confirmed that the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, has been extended another two weeks.
State Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh made the announcement yesterday, saying that the new deadline to apply is April 18th. The program provides aid to individuals who are falling behind or having trouble paying their home heating bills. While the season is not expected to be impacted, continued federal funding and support are being seen as critical for uninterrupted assistance for Pennsylvanians next winter.
The program serves more than 300,000 families in the commonwealth and is seen as critical for older adults and low-income families to make sure they safely heat their home during the colder months.
