Several local and state entities are offering help during National Problem Gambling Awareness Month.
Michelle Barnhart with The Open Door of Indiana said they offer several resources for mental health and substance abuse disorders, but they also do assessments for gambling addictions.
On the statewide level, officials with the Pennsylvania Lottery say help is available with the state’s gambling help hotline 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537). There’s also the opportunity to connect with the Council on Compulsive Gambling of Pennsylvania, Inc., which offers warning signs, counseling services, and self-help meetings.
The Lottery also has Healthy Play for those taking part in online games. You can view a listing of the Healthy Play tips below:
Healthy Play® means:
- Setting a budget and playing only within your financial means.
- Understanding the chances of winning and not chasing losses.
- Not letting play interfere with work or family obligations.
- Taking a break or stop playing entirely if playing stops being fun.
- Understanding that Lottery games are not suitable for children. Whether buying a ticket for yourself or as a gift, Pennsylvania Lottery players must be 18 or older.
