One of the popular traditions on New Year’s Day is a cold swim to raise funds for charity, and that tradition will continue today in Blairsville.
The annual Polar Plunge will be held at noon today at the boat launch near the Conemaugh River. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Blairsville Parks and Recreation Center and to the Blairsville Water Rescue Team. Ab Dettorre with the Blairsville Fire Department said that safety will be paramount as the water rescue team will be in the water as well, and he says this will also make a good exercise for them.
Registration is $20 and you will get a T-shirt for your donation. They will accept donations from those who won’t go in the water today. Registration starts at 11:00 this morning. There will also be warm refreshments for participants and a bonfire set up to help warm up and dry off after the plunge.
