The 2025 budget and a full-time officer’s position will be the main topics of discussion at tonight’s special Homer City Borough Council meeting.
On the agenda for consideration is the elimination of the final full-time police officer on the force, Chief Anthony Jellison, and the buyback of prior service from other police departments. For the budget, the borough is considering two options:
- Staying with the borough budget that was proposed earlier this month that has no tax increases and passing it tonight.
- Give preliminary approval to an amended budget that contains a tax increase. If this happens, the amended budget and the tax increase ordinance would have to be advertised for 10 days and scheduling a special meeting on December 30th or 31st to formally adopt the amended budget.
Earlier this month, the borough had considered several options for the budget, many of which called for the elimination of Chief Jellison’s position and leaving the borough with part-time officers only as an effort to save the borough money and prevent a tax increase.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the borough building boardroom. We will have coverage of the meeting live on the WCCS Facebook page.
