What a night for the Cummings family. With his brother Nelly, a former Pitt star, serving as color analyst on the ACC Network Extra, Pitt freshman Brandon Cummings came off the bench and scored the first 12 points, on his way to 30, with six three-pointers, in a 96-56 rout of Eastern Kentucky.
Zack Austin scored 18 points for the Panthers, while Ismael Leggett added 17 and Jaland Lowe scored 11 and dished out 12 assists.
Coach Jeff Capel says it was an all-around effort for the Panthers.
Capel says Pitt put it all together for the first time in quite a while, especially after halftime.
Cummings, who played his high school basketball for Lincoln Park in the WPIAL, says he’s spent hundred and hundreds of hours in the gym developing his shot, and it paid off last night.
Pitt is now off for the next ten days while the university wraps up Finals Week and closes the falls semester. They will host Sam Houston State on December 21st to close out the calendar year, then lock into the ACC schedule for the final 19 games of the regular season, starting January 1st against California.
