Since 1988, residents in Saltsburg and other areas of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties could count on Lifestat Ambulance to respond to medical emergencies. However, the lack of financial backing has caused the service to abruptly shut its doors.
Officials with Lifestat Ambulance said in a Facebook post yesterday that they can no longer provide emergency services to the Saltsburg area, citing a critical decline in insurance reimbursement and financial support. They even say requests for funding have been denied by political agencies.
Lifestat closed its doors for good Saturday at 10 p.m. and officials told us that 911 centers in both Indiana and Westmoreland counties will send the closest ambulance service to incidents for the time being, as per protocol. All memberships will be honored until the renewal period on February 1st.
