West Shamokin checked off a couple of items from its postseason list last night, avenging last year’s District 6 semifinal loss to Philipsburg-Osceola while at the same time knocking off the defending state AA champion.
The final was 25-21, 25-20, and 25-15. Aleya Talmadge’s five-point service run set up the Wolves in the first set and she had a three-point run in the second, punctuated by Sarah Wilson’s kill on the third point. The Wolves then went on a six-point run in the third set to put it away.
Second-seeded West Shamokin will take on third seed Forest Hills, a 3-0 winner over Bellwood Antis, tomorrow night in the D6 semifinals.
Class A second seed Northern Cambria is on the court tonight for a semifinal matchup with number three Ferndale. The other semi features top seed West Branch against number five Bishop Carroll.
The Class A Final will be at noon Saturday at the Altoona Fieldhouse. The AA Final will follow at 2 PM
