The Steelers held their first practice of the week yesterday in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Raiders in Las Vegas.
Running back Jaylen Warren and tight end MyCole Pruitt returned to work, but both were limited. Safety Damontae Kazee sat out, as did running back/tight end Cordarelle Patterson, outside edge rushers Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and DeMarvin Leal, all of whom are injured. A number of relatively healthy players had the day off for rest.
The Raiders, meanwhile, announced a change at quarterback. Gardner Minshew is benched, and second-year man Aidan O’Connell will start.
Cornerback Donte Jackson says the Steelers’ defensive players know they have to be better than they’ve been the last two weeks.
Rookie Payton Wilson says the inside linebackers are not feeling any extra pressure to make up for absences of injured outside ‘backers.
Edge rusher Jeremiah Moon just joined the active roster last week after being injured in training camp, and when Herbig and Leal were hurt, he ended up playing the rest of the game. He says he is learning how to go about his business from TJ Watt’s example.
