There is a possibility that football will not be played at the new River Valley football stadium as originally hoped due to some portions being incomplete and losing time due to negotiations.
At the district’s committee meetings last week, it was announced that their contractor, Hellas Construction of Cedar Park, Texas, had completed the original work they were contracted to do, but the district was in negotiations with them and a subcontractor under Hellas to do some work on the retaining wall, the remaining paving, a pad for the concession stand, utility work, which made up Phase Three of the project. Board President Rick Harper said that there was a change of leadership in the contracting company, and because of that, they did not want to take on new work.
Harper said that while there is the possibility that games will not be played this season on the new field, they are looking at all contingency plans, but the final decision will be up to the board.
There were several differences and heated discussion between board members related to the project during that committee meeting. The contract issues were the reason why a special meeting to approve two agreements for the project last week was cancelled.
The issue is expected to be brought up tomorrow night at the next full meeting of the board.
