It was supposed to be a great pitching duel between the Pirates and Dodgers last night, but the Pirates’ offense had other ideas. Joe Block has the recap.
Even though Paul Skenes wasn’t as sharp as usual, manager Derek Shelton says Skenes was impressive, and he loves how Pirates fans roar when he strikes a batter out.
Shelton says Skenes kept his cool against the potent Dodgers offense, even after giving up a long home run to Shohei Ohtani.
Skenes was happy with the offensive and defensive support from his Pirates teammates.
In tonight’s series finale, Bailey Falter [3-2, 3.22 ERA] faces Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler [1-3, 4.32 ERA], the former Pirates draftee who is in his first season back after having Tommy John surgery. It will be a 6:15 airtime, a 6:40 first pitch on WCCS.
Major League Baseball has opened the first phase of All-Star voting. Phase One is from June 5th through the 27th. Phase Two, in which the All-Star starters will be chosen, is June 30th through July 3rd. You can vote at mlb.com or pirates.com.
