Pennsylvania Congressman Glenn Thompson has announced proposals that will be part of his bill to set farm and nutrition policies for the coming five years.
The Chair of the House Agriculture Committee, Thompson says the measure will provide stability to producers, food security and revitalize rural America. Among its plans are support for specific crops and insurance against natural disasters. The Republican’s plan however calls for cuts to food and climate-focused conservation funding. Democrats called Thompson’s legislation as favoring major agriculture interests and called the funding scheme untenable and unlikely to pass.
The measure is set to be debated on May 23rd.
