BASEBALL
IUP Baseball is number seven in the Atlantic Region rankings released yesterday. It’s the first numerical rankings of the season, with one more set to be released next Wednesday and the Division II Tournament brackets to be revealed on May 12th.
TENNIS
Winners of eight straight matches, IUP Women’s Tennis is ranked second behind Charleston in the new set of Atlantic Region rankings. Slippery Rock is third, followed by Mercyhurst, Fairmont State, Millersville, West Virginia Wesleyan, Frostburg State, and Shaw. IUP is 12-5 overall, 11-1 in the Region, and 6-0 in the PSAC. The three-time defending conference champs will play West Chester in the PSAC semifinals tomorrow at Bloomsburg.
Millersville is number one in the Region this week, followed by West Chester, East Stroudsburg, Seton Hill, Frostburg State, Charleston, then IUP, Shippensburg, and Slippery Rock. IUP has not made the NCAA Tournament since 1990.
IUP will close out the regular season with a four-game series against Mercyhurst, starting with a doubleheader today in Erie and following up with a doubleheader tomorrow at IUP. They’ll be in the PSAC Tournament starting next Wednesday.
SOFTBALL
IUP Softball lost twice yesterday and was eliminated from the PSAC Tournament. The Crimson Hawks were beaten by Shippensburg, 9-6 in the morning, then fell to Bloomsburg 6-1. IUP finishes its season 29-25.
LACROSSE
IUP Women’s Lacrosse couldn’t complete a rally and lost to Seton Hill, 17-13. The Griffins will host the PSAC Tournament as the top seed next week. IUP will not qualify for the tournament. They’ll finish their season Saturday at home against Lock Haven.
