BASEBALL
Homer-Center and West Shamokin matched up in a classic pitchers duel, with the Wildcats finally breaking through for a run in the 6th and another in the 7th to win it, 2-0. Pinch runner Jaiden Sharer took third on a curveball in the dirt, then scored when the catcher’s throw to third got away for an error. In the top of the 7th, Noah Turk was hit by a pitch, Nate Birchall bunted pinch runner Drew Fisher to second and reached on an error, with Fisher moving to third. Then with runners on the corners, Brayden Rado bunted Fisher home. Turk worked six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and walking one while striking out four. Caleb Palmer threw a scoreless 7th for the save. Rado and Nash Budner led the Homer-Center attack with two hits each. For West Shamokin, Ben McConnell went six-and-two-thirds innings, giving up just two runs, one earned. Nevan Smulik had two hits including a double and McConnell also doubled.
Five players had two hits each for River Valley as the Panthers dropped Purchase Line, 11-1. Hunter Riggle had 2 hits with a home run and drove in 4 runs. Merreck Smith had 2 hits and drove in 3. Caden Vresilovec, Andrew Dickson, Sammy Yanits, and Niko Vadala all had 2 hits. AJ Chambers had 2 hits for Purchase Line.
Caden McCully had 3 hits with a home run and 3 RBIs and Dmitri Worthington, Ryan Felix, and James Kordish all had 2 hits, plus Isaac Worthington homered in a 15-8 win for United over Conemaugh Valley. Jeremy Dietz had 2 hits and drove in 3 for CV.
Marion Center scored 7 runs in the first two innings and went on to a 12-2 win over Penns Manor. Noah McCoy had another big day with a home run and a double, with 4 RBIs. Trey Slovinsky had 3 hits and Isaac Reaugh and Trent Slovinsky both had 2. Penns Manor managed only 3 hits, including a Kayden Detwiler double.
Northern Cambria only had 4 hits, but 10 batters walked as the Colts outdistanced Cambria Heights, 10-6. Reese Wagner doubled for NC. For the Highlanders, Ethan Kline and Anthony Swander both had 3 hits.
Conemaugh Township clobbered Portage, 18-3, as Larry Weaver homered, doubled twice, and drove in 7 runs.
In the WPIAL, Indiana walloped Highlands for the second straight day, 12-2. Landon Kodman had two hits and drove in four and Mark Collinger had three hits with a double and 2 RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Cheyenne Silvis struck out 7 as Marion Center shut out Penns Manor, 9-0. Lydia Miller had two hits, Mya Lipsie cracked a grand slam and Maci Miller homered as well for the Stingers.
Malena Stewart and Avery Elkin both had 3 hits and Cameron Vandervort and Lily Jordan each added 2 as West Shamokin blanked Homer-Center, 15-0. Leah Mondi struck out 4 in the 4-inning shutout.
Two hits each for Emerson Skirboll, Tori Foust, and Lilly Buckles as River Valley knocked off Purchase Line, 11-0. Sara Bollinger went 4 innings and Buckles one in the circle, each striking out 3 in the one-hit shutout.
Conemaugh Valley’s Maddie Beiter struck out 10 and allowed just one hit as the Blue Jays beat United 13-5. Isabella Winkelman tripled and doubled and drove in 4. For the Lions, Cleo Long had the lone hit, and drove in 3 runs.
Cambria Heights routed Northern Cambria,13-3.
Portage shut out Conemaugh Township, 10-0.
