The Penguins yesterday signed former number one draft choice Sam Poulin to a two-year, two-way contract. The Pens’ top pick from 2019 played in three games in the NHL this season with no points. He spent most of the year with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he scored 16 goals with 15 assists in 41 games.
The Penguins have 19 players who are scheduled to become restricted or unrestricted free agents on July 1st.
The Pens also signed goaltender Filip Larsson to a two-year, two-way contract. The former Detroit Red Wings sixth round draft choice played in the Swedish Hockey League this season, with a 19-9-0 record, a 1.93 goals-against average, and a .920 save percentage. Since being drafted in 2016, Larsson has played only 17 games in North America, all in the minor leagues.
