Homer-Center scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th for an 11-10 extra inning win over Derry in the championship game of the Homer-Center Baseball Tournament. Apollo Ridge beat Penns Manor, 4-2, to win the consolation game.
In the championship game, Homer-Center scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Braden Dunn’s two-run single and four walks issued by Derry pitchers. The Wildcats scored another run in the second to make it 6-0, but Derry pulled to within 6-3 with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Homer-Center answered with two in the bottom of the fifth and held an 8-4 lead entering the top of the seventh. But Derry scored five runs in the inning to take a 9-8 lead. The Wildcats tied it in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. Derry notched a run in the ninth to take a 10-9 lead before the Wildcats scored to tie the game at 10 and Dunn ended it with a run-scoring groundout to second base.
