Senator Joe Pittman isn’t fully convinced that carbon capture sequestration is a viable solution for the energy industry in Pennsylvania, but he’s willing to give it a try.
The Senate has passed legislation that would establish rules for regulating underground wells that store carbon dioxide, thus slowing climate change. The injection of greenhouse gases into underground wells would enable coal or gas-fired power plants to produce the energy to make hydrogen. The Biden administration wants to make hydrogen the centerpiece of energy production, replacing fossil fuels.
In his latest newsletter, Pittman write, “I have my doubts as to the efficacy of carbon capture sequestration, but if this is going to be the next great thing, we should put a regulatory framework in place to allow it to occur.”
